Our Story

In September 1992, Mr. M.O. Eckel Jr. and his son, Dr. M.O. Eckel III opened an outpatient physical therapy clinic in the doctor’s building next to Methodist North hospital in Memphis, TN. Shortly thereafter, Dr. M.O. Eckel III moved to South Tipton County and it was then that he and his father recognized the growing need for a physical therapy clinic in that area.

After several months of planning, they leased Dr. Sid Witherington and Dr. Vaughn’s old medical office in downtown Munford and opened the Tipton County branch of Mid-South Physical Therapy in the fall of 1993. As this clinic grew, so did the need for more space in order to accommodate more patients and equipment. Thus, in 1995, the current Atoka office was built on Highway 51 N. in the Covenant Center; a 4,800 sq. foot complex housing physical therapy and fitness equipment.

After much consideration, the Eckels decided to close the office in Memphis in order to focus their attention on the growing needs of Tipton and North Shelby counties. They have been blessed in this endeavor, as the physical therapy and fitness center continues to be a success.
